Abstract
The article focuses on the positive impact of extracurricular activities, particularly career and technical student organizations (CTSOs), on student mental health and development. Research cited from the Wisconsin Office of Children’s Mental Health and the Journal of Youth Development indicates that participation in extracurriculars reduces depression, anxiety, and risky behaviors while fostering self-esteem, social connection, and a sense of belonging. CTSOs, such as SkillsUSA and DECA, integrate academic learning with real-world skills, providing mentorship, leadership opportunities, and community for career and technical education (CTE) students, many of whom face unique challenges.
