Abstract
The article focuses on examining Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) performance among primary Spanish speakers tested in either English (S-E) or Spanish (S-S). Using data from the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center, the study compared MMSE scores between 1,514 S-S and 346 S-E participants, finding that S-S individuals had lower education levels and MMSE scores overall. However, when matched on age, education, and dementia severity, no significant differences in MMSE scores or rates of abnormal scores were observed between the two groups. The findings suggest that educational level, rather than test language, is associated with MMSE performance in Spanish-speaking populations.
