Abstract
The article focuses on the 50th anniversary of the Education for All Handicapped Children’s Act (P.L. 94-142) and its ongoing impact on providing a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to students with disabilities. It highlights the importance of advocacy and leadership in maintaining the rights and protections established by this legislation and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The issue emphasizes the need for effective systems and inclusive practices in special education to ensure equity and opportunity for students with disabilities, while also reflecting on the societal benefits of inclusion.
