Abstract

The article focuses on the development and evaluation of a screencast-based flipped classroom teaching model implemented in the distance learning Master of Science (MSc) degree in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law at the University of Winchester, UK. Established in 2016, the MSc experienced rapid global enrollment growth but faced staffing limitations, prompting a shift from traditional live webinars to pre-recorded, enriched screencast videos combined with interactive live sessions and discussion forums. This approach enhanced student engagement, satisfaction, and learning flexibility while saving faculty time, with 100% of surveyed students supporting its continuation and 71%–86% advocating its expansion to other courses. Despite a significant initial time investment for video production, the model aligns with the university's strategic priorities and is planned for gradual implementation across the program.
