Abstract

This article examines whether online mindfulness training (MT) can enhance field immersion learning outcomes—specifically civic engagement, experiential learning, and experiencing—for undergraduate liberal arts students across four South Asian cities. Using a quasi-experimental pre- and posttest design, the study found that students who participated in weekly MT sessions over a year reported significantly higher scores in these domains compared to a waitlist control group. Female students, those living with natal families or in campus hostels, and participants with higher MT session attendance and homework completion showed greater improvements. The findings suggest that integrating MT into liberal arts field immersion programs may bolster deep learning and civic engagement, though adaptations may be needed to better support male students and those living off-campus.
