Abstract

This article analyzes trends in continuing pharmacy education (CPE) programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in the United States from 2012 to 2022, focusing on care for sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients. The study identified 726 unique CPE programs, predominantly live, knowledge-based activities aimed at pharmacists, with many addressing gender-affirming care through pharmacotherapy and pharmacy administration topics. The number of such programs increased substantially over the decade, reflecting growing recognition of the need to prepare pharmacy professionals to serve the expanding SGM population. The authors note that while availability has improved, further research is needed to assess the specific content, effectiveness, and practical application of these educational offerings to enhance affirming and inclusive care for SGM patients.
