Abstract

The article focuses on the development and application of the Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE) assessment toolkit created by the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) Council on Outcomes-based Veterinary Education (COVE) Analyze Working Group. This online toolkit provides veterinary educators and curriculum committees with detailed descriptions of 21 assessment tools aligned with CBVE domains of competence, facilitating selection of appropriate methods for evaluating student learning across various courses and clinical rotations. The toolkit supports both programmatic and individual course assessments, offering evidence-based guidance to enhance alignment between assessment techniques and intended learning outcomes, and is designed for ongoing updates as new data emerge. Examples illustrate its use in diverse educational settings, from pre-clinical courses to clinical rotations and off-campus externships, emphasizing its role in improving competency assessment and veterinary education outcomes.
