Case-Based E-Learning Tool Affects Self-Confidence in Clinical Reasoning Skills Among Veterinary Students—A Survey at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.

Abstract

This article focuses on evaluating the impact of Veterinary eClinic, a gamified case-based e-learning (CBEL) tool, on final-year veterinary students' self-confidence in clinical reasoning skills at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The study found that after four weeks of using Veterinary eClinic, students reported significantly increased confidence in making problem lists, selecting diagnostic tests, making diagnoses, and performing animal welfare assessments, while confidence in physical examination and communication skills did not significantly change. Most students (97%) regarded Veterinary eClinic as a valuable supplement to traditional clinical training, appreciating its realistic cases, immediate feedback, and motivational game elements, though they emphasized that it cannot replace hands-on experience. The authors suggest that integrating Veterinary eClinic earlier in the curriculum and incorporating collaborative learning with tutor support could enhance its educational benefits.
