Abstract

This article discusses the concept of High-Impact Practices (HIPs), which are applied and experiential learning opportunities that have become popular in colleges and universities. The current list of 11 HIPs includes experiences such as internships, service learning, and undergraduate research. While these practices have been shown to have educational benefits, there are concerns about access, quality, and perpetuating inequities. The article calls for expanding the list of HIPs to include other transformative practices and highlights several nominees, such as peer mentoring and field-based research experiences. The goal is to provide more opportunities for students and to hold academic leaders accountable for supporting these offerings. [Extracted from the article]
