Abstract
This article focuses on college readiness programs for Black high school students and the role of school nurses in supporting these efforts. An integrative review of eighteen studies found that most programs improved students' non-cognitive skills and college knowledge but did not involve school nurses. The Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice™ highlights how school nurses can promote academic success and advocate for anti-racist, asset-based college readiness initiatives that address structural racism and support Black youth, particularly males who are underrepresented in such programs. The article emphasizes the unique position of school nurses to foster a college-going culture and improve school climate, yet notes their current underutilization in college readiness programming for Black students.
