Abstract

This article focuses on insights from a co-produced research project involving children and young people (CYP) with 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome (22q) and their families, aiming to advance disability-related justice in education and research. It highlights the challenges faced by CYP with 22q in mainstream education, including inadequate support, bias-based discrimination, and limited inclusion despite legislative pledges. The study emphasizes the importance of participatory action research that positions CYP as experts in their own lives, advocating for their agency and involvement in decision-making alongside families and educators. It also underscores the need for improved training for education professionals, better communication with families, and the creation of initiatives like "22q Champions" to raise awareness and foster positive change in school communities.
