Abstract
The High Court recently upheld a ban on prayer at Michaela Community School in London, following a case brought by a Muslim student. The student argued that the ban violated the Equality Act and her Human Rights, specifically regarding the Duhr or Zuhr prayer. The court determined that the ban did not interfere with the student's right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, and that it was proportionate to the school's disciplinary and team ethos. The decision does not grant schools unrestricted authority to restrict prayer, but rather considers the specific circumstances and context of each case. [Extracted from the article]
