Abstract
This article investigates the use of high-energy jet technology to enhance the rudder control efficiency of the X-51A high-speed aircraft through numerical simulations. It compares traditional mechanical rudder deflection with active flow control by applying high-energy jets at two locations: the head of the aircraft and the windward side of the rudder. Results indicate that applying high-energy jets at the aircraft's head reduces rudder control efficiency by 27.45%, while jets on the windward side of the rudder improve control efficiency by 13.78% by increasing the pitching moment and altering the flow field structure. These findings provide insights into active flow control methods that could improve maneuverability and control in high-speed aircraft without redesigning aerodynamic shapes.
