Abstract

A literary criticism of the book "La Poupée sanglante" by Gaston Leroux is presented, focusing on the evolution of the android trope in fin-de-siècle literature. Topics discussed include the parallels between the android Gabriel and earlier fictional mechanical humans, the philosophical and technological influences shaping perceptions of life and consciousness, and the transition from mechanical motion to the primacy of thought as a defining characteristic of humanity.
