Abstract
This article focuses on the use and perceptions of the MOVES SLC (Monitor, Oxygen Concentrator, Ventilator, and Suction System) portable integrated life-support device by Ukrainian military and civilian trauma care providers during the ongoing conflict following the Russian Federation invasion in February 2022. Based on qualitative interviews with 36 healthcare personnel across various NATO care roles, the MOVES SLC was generally well regarded for its capabilities in providing prolonged en-route care under austere conditions, despite challenges such as the need for vehicle modifications to secure the equipment and the necessity of training for optimal use. The device, donated by Thornhill Medical and supported by Canadian and U.S. partners, addresses critical gaps in prehospital trauma care where evacuation options are limited due to contested airspace and ground threats. The study highlights the importance of integrated, portable medical technology in enhancing trauma care capacity amid large-scale combat operations and calls for further research on its impact and operational integration.
