Abstract

This study examines the potential impacts of Hyperloop technology—a high-speed transit system using near-vacuum tubes—on the tourism and hospitality sectors, highlighting both opportunities and challenges. Key benefits identified include enabling multi-destination day trips, boosting culinary tourism, expanding the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, and creating new employment around Hyperloop hubs. Conversely, the technology may reduce demand for traditional accommodations, decrease airline and railway bookings, limit tourist visits to destinations outside the Hyperloop network, and disperse travel expenditures across multiple locations. The study emphasizes the need for tourism and hospitality stakeholders to prepare strategically for these shifts and suggests future research directions involving socio-psychological analyses, quantitative modeling, big data, and geographic information systems to better understand and adapt to Hyperloop’s influence on travel behavior and industry dynamics.
