Abstract
This article focuses on Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, and her leadership role in advancing the company’s Starship rocket program and broader ambitions in space exploration. Shotwell oversees the production of Starship rockets at SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas, aiming to support NASA’s Artemis lunar missions, including a planned human landing on the moon by 2028. SpaceX is also expanding its Starlink satellite internet constellation and pursuing a proposed mega-constellation of up to one million artificial intelligence (AI) satellites to serve as space-based data centers. The article highlights Shotwell’s management of SpaceX’s rapid growth, regulatory challenges, and geopolitical complexities, as well as her efforts to maintain workforce focus amid CEO Elon Musk’s high-profile public presence and the company’s upcoming initial public offering.
