Abstract
The article discusses the upcoming switch-off of the UK's analogue telephone system, known as PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), and its replacement with digital voice services that use fibre-optic networks and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology. The switch-off is scheduled for December 2025, but the process has already begun. While many people have already transitioned to digital telephone services, there are still a significant number of individuals without broadband internet access who rely on traditional landline telephones. The article also mentions that the switch-off will affect ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) services and other systems such as traffic lights and security systems that use the PSTN network.
