Abstract

Iran is a major oil producer with large reserves of oil and gas. Despite sanctions imposed by the US in 2018, Iran continues to produce and export oil. The country's Seventh Development Plan, which focuses on the economy, infrastructure, and education, among other objectives, is dependent on the revenue generated from oil production. However, the previous Sixth Development Plan faced challenges such as US sanctions, lack of foreign investment, and internal conflicts, which may indicate a similar fate for the Seventh Plan. Gregory Brew's study explores the history of Iranian development and oil from the 1940s to the 1960s, highlighting the relationship between global oil markets and local development efforts in Iran. The book examines how Iran negotiated local and global concerns and the impact of these negotiations. [Extracted from the article]
