Abstract
The article focuses on the historical development of Sunnyside, a town in Carbon County, Utah, which emerged as a coal mining settlement. Originally a company town for the Utah Fuel Company, Sunnyside's population grew to 1,500 by 1901 and was incorporated in 1916, reaching its peak in the 1920s. The town experienced a decline in the 1930s but saw a resurgence during World War II due to increased coal demand. In 1950, Kaiser Steel Corporation acquired the assets of the Utah Fuel Company, including the Sunnyside mine, and in 2014, Sunnyside merged with the neighboring town of East Carbon.
