Abstract

The article discusses a new method developed by researchers for recovering ammonia from wastewater using solar energy, which could provide a cost-effective source of nitrogen fertilizer while reducing harmful nutrient runoff. The innovative setup combines a solar still with a specially designed plastic sponge that converts ammonium into ammonia, allowing for efficient evaporation and collection of both ammonia and fresh water. This approach not only aims to purify wastewater but also has the potential to generate hydrochloric acid as a byproduct, making the system economically viable within a few years.
