Abstract

Plains All American Pipeline has agreed to pay $72.5 million to settle a lawsuit over the 2015 Refugio Beach oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. The spill resulted from a ruptured pipeline, releasing an estimated 126,000 gallons of oil into the ocean and beaches. The settlement will provide $50.5 million to the state of California and $22 million to Aspen American Insurance, with Plains All American estimating total costs related to the incident at $870 million.
