Abstract
The article offers considerations for social studies teachers interested in teaching and learning about the national parks such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) in the U.S. Topics include how teachers might engage their students in different modes of disciplinary thinking, the differences between national parks and national forests, the enduring impact of conservation on national parks, and the history of GSMNP.
