Abstract
Due to a severe cold snap in Europe, the Dutch government has decided to temporarily extract minimal amounts of gas from the Groningen field. Two gas wells at the field will be operated on a "pilot light" mode, extracting only a minimum amount of gas. The Groningen field, Europe's largest gas field, is scheduled to be permanently shut down this year due to the earthquakes it has caused. The extraction will only continue as long as low temperatures are expected, and it will allow for a quick response in case of any failures in gas storage facilities. [Extracted from the article]
