Abstract
A recent study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B reveals that rising sea levels have led to the expansion of mangrove forests off Australia's northern coast. The Howick Group of islands in the Great Barrier Reef has experienced a massive mangrove expansion due to its unique geologic history. The islands, which are made up of ancient coral reefs, provide a suitable habitat for mangroves as sea levels rise. This research emphasizes the importance of studying mangroves on a local scale to better understand their adaptability to climate change and their role in mitigating its effects.
