Abstract
In the article "Conservatism: The Fight for a Tradition," Edmund Fawcett explores the concept of "liberal conservatism" and its relationship to liberalism as the dominant political force. Fawcett traces the development of conservatism from its forerunners, Edmund Burke and Joseph de Maistre, to its modern manifestations. He argues that conservatism has made an intellectual recovery and now occupies a position of political command in liberal democracies. Fawcett also highlights the tension within conservatism between liberal conservatism and a more hard-right faction. Overall, the article suggests that conservatism is a pervasive and influential body of thought that seeks to preserve institutions and practices while adapting to the modern context.
