Abstract

This article investigates how the connection to traditional values influences three consumer attitudes—towards slow fashion, pro-environmental behavior, and handcrafted clothing—and how these attitudes affect the intention to repurchase handcrafted clothing and, indirectly, slow fashion consumption. Based on a quantitative survey of 362 handcrafted clothing consumers in Mexico, the study found that traditional values positively impact all three attitudes. However, only attitudes toward slow fashion and handcrafted clothing significantly influenced repurchase intention, while the pro-environmental attitude did not directly affect repurchase intention but did influence slow fashion consumption indirectly. The findings highlight the importance of traditional cultural values in shaping sustainable fashion consumption and suggest strategic opportunities for artisans and slow fashion businesses to leverage these values in marketing and product development.
