Abstract
The article focuses on a photograph by Vivian Wan, which highlights the efforts of the Indigenous Yurok community in California to restore their environment and cultural heritage. The image depicts Yurok members collaborating with biologists to set up rotary screw traps on the Trinity River to study Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), a species vital to their culture that has been threatened by colonization, climate change, and irrigation policies. The dismantling of dams on the Klamath River is part of a broader movement for environmental justice led by Indigenous communities. The photograph is part of the Earth Photo 2025 exhibition, which aims to raise awareness of these issues. [Extracted from the article]
