Abstract
The article focuses on SpaceX’s development and deployment of its Starship spacecraft, a next-generation rocket designed to support NASA’s Artemis lunar program and broader ambitions for space colonization. Currently, 18 Starships are under construction at SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas, with the goal of enabling a crewed lunar landing by Artemis IV in 2028, despite concerns about schedule delays and technical challenges. SpaceX also plans to use Starship for launching large satellite constellations, including Starlink internet satellites and a proposed mega-constellation of artificial intelligence (AI) satellites, aiming to expand global connectivity and space-based data processing. The company’s leadership, particularly COO Gwynne Shotwell, manages the complex regulatory, technical, and geopolitical aspects of these efforts while preparing for a potential public offering and integrating AI through a merger with Elon Musk’s xAI.
