Abstract

The article examines the impact of the U.S. naval blockade on Iran’s oil industry amid ongoing conflict, challenging President Donald Trump’s claim that Iranian oil wells would irreparably “explode” and collapse imminently. Despite the blockade aiming to cut Iran’s oil exports and revenue, Iran’s substantial onshore and offshore storage capacity, along with experienced petroleum engineers managing gradual production throttling, suggest the industry will not implode in the short term. Experts note that while the blockade will cause economic harm and reduce output, it is unlikely to cause permanent damage to Iran’s oil wells, which previously recovered from similar sanctions in 2019–2020. The blockade is thus viewed primarily as a pressure tactic to bring Iran to negotiations rather than a definitive solution to the conflict. [Extracted from the article]
