Abstract

This article discusses the importance of measuring and valuing nature accurately in order to protect the environment and make informed business decisions. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is working on developing scientific standards and low-cost technologies to measure and value natural ecosystems. These measurements can be used to create financial instruments, inform insurance markets, and support national natural capital assessments. International cooperation is necessary to develop comprehensive understanding and standards for measuring and valuing nature. Startups and collaborations with companies are also contributing to the development of environmental monitoring technologies. Corporate sustainability managers can stay informed and collaborate with scientific agencies to mitigate their environmental impact. The future involves scaling up technologies, ensuring accessibility, and driving international cooperation to create global standards for measuring and valuing nature. [Extracted from the article]
