Abstract
The article focuses on the evolving role of mental health nurses in addressing environmental and psychological challenges both on Earth and in the context of civilian spaceflight. It highlights how mental health nurses can apply pro-environmental behaviors and principles from the Planetary Health Education Network to support patients' mental well-being amid planetary changes and the unique stressors of space environments. The article discusses specific health issues faced in space, such as musculoskeletal changes and emotional dysregulation, and emphasizes the importance of interventions like cognitive behavioral therapy and telehealth counseling for space travelers. It also notes the expanding scope of mental health nursing to include long-term care beyond Earth, requiring adaptation to new environmental, financial, and political challenges.
