Abstract

Cape Town experienced record-breaking rainfall in July due to a series of winter storms. The Oranjezicht station recorded the highest amount of rainfall since records began in 1960, with 317.6 millimeters of rain. The Kirstenbosch Gardens and the nearby town of Franschhoek also received significant rainfall. These storms have caused displacement for shantytown residents and are part of a pattern of adverse weather events in South Africa, potentially linked to climate change. The government is establishing a climate response fund to address infrastructure damage caused by extreme weather. [Extracted from the article]
