Abstract
This article focuses on Oevaru 2023, the inaugural national mental health research conference in the Maldives, organized by the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Held in October 2023, the conference addressed holistic mental health care, prevention, innovation, and investment amid rising mental health challenges exacerbated by socio-cultural factors, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Oevaru 2023 featured national and international experts, workshops, and collaborative sessions, including a hybrid event with the Creating Futures Conference, emphasizing inclusivity and multi-sectoral engagement. The conference concluded with a white paper outlining research-driven strategies to build a resilient, equitable, and accessible mental health system in the Maldives.
