Abstract
The article focuses on JSW Steel’s launch of the Minas de Revuboe (MdR) coking coal mining project in the Moatize coal basin, Tete Province, Mozambique. MdR holds 850 million tonnes of reserves with the potential to produce 250 million tonnes of premium hard coking coal, a crucial raw material for steelmaking, and aims to produce 2.4 million tonnes per annum in its first development phase. This project supports JSW Steel’s backward integration strategy by securing a long-term, cost-effective supply of high-quality coking coal, addressing India’s limited domestic resources and reducing exposure to price volatility. Additionally, the high-grade coal from MdR is expected to aid the company’s sustainability and decarbonization goals. JSW Steel is a major Indian steel manufacturer with production units in Karnataka and Maharashtra. [Extracted from the article]
