The Place of Justice and Vulnerability in Climate Resilience.

Abstract
This article critically examines the concept of "resilience" in the context of climate change, emphasizing the need to integrate a normative, justice-oriented approach informed by feminist and intersectional theory. It highlights how prevailing individualistic or ecological interpretations of resilience often overlook structural injustices, gendered and intersectional vulnerabilities, and the unequal burdens borne by marginalized populations, particularly women in the global South. The authors propose six action-guiding principles to enhance resilience while addressing social justice: building redundancies and diversification; fostering knowledge sharing; increasing social cohesion and cooperation; improving participation and polycentric governance; protecting regenerative capacities; and implementing preventive measures. They argue that resilience should be understood normatively to reduce vulnerabilities and promote procedural, distributive, contributive, relational, and intergenerational justice, thereby supporting inclusive, equitable, and sustainable responses to climate disruptions.
