Abstract
A report from Stanford University explores the impact of neighborhood risk and cultural socialization on the executive function (EF) of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) preschool children. The study found that while overall neighborhood risk did not predict EF, higher levels of cultural socialization, particularly in language and cultural activities, were associated with higher EF. The researchers suggest that cultural socialization may promote resilience in AI/AN preschoolers by fostering spiritual, social, and cultural connections, as well as providing opportunities to practice EF skills. They recommend further research in partnership with AI/AN communities to develop culturally grounded interventions and reassess measures of neighborhood risk. [Extracted from the article]
