Abstract
The article focuses on "Letter from Battir," a live journalism piece created by three student journalists from Toronto Metropolitan University after visiting Battir, a Palestinian village in the West Bank. Developed during an international journalism course emphasizing decolonial and community-based reporting on food, the performance was presented at the 2023 International Live Journalism Festival in Toronto, centering on climate issues and local resistance. The piece highlights Battir’s sustainability efforts, including agricultural revitalization and the village’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, framed through oral storytelling traditions and the political context of occupation. The journalists emphasize the interconnectedness of climate change, decolonization, and resistance, aiming to convey nuanced Palestinian narratives to an open-minded audience while acknowledging the limitations of outsiders telling these stories.
