Abstract

Cape Town, South Africa, is taking steps to diversify its water supply and reduce reliance on dams after experiencing a severe drought in 2018. The city is considering building new desalination plants and treating wastewater to meet the needs of its growing population. The authorities anticipate that more water will need to be stored to fight wildfires as climate change intensifies. Feasibility studies are currently underway to determine the most effective options for financing and constructing these new water facilities. Other planned interventions include drilling new boreholes, tapping springs, and clearing invasive plants to save water and increase supply. [Extracted from the article]
