Abstract

This article focuses on research from Cardiff University examining public preferences for reallocating urban street space to encourage cycling in the United Kingdom. Using a Best-Worst-Scaling (BWS) profile case approach with 509 participants, the study found broad support for cycling infrastructure and traffic restrictions, with a preference for reallocating road space rather than pedestrian areas and opposition to removing car parking. Both drivers and cyclists favored segregated cycling lanes over painted bike lanes, and perceptions of cycling infrastructure as infringing on individual freedom significantly influenced preferences.
