Abstract
Owen-Smith explains clearly that the climate of Africa is dominated by rainfall amount (there is not much of it compared with most other continents), and more precisely, the seasonality of that rainfall. The last chapter speculates about the future of African ecosystems, and Owen-Smith writes that he has been privileged to grow up in Africa and experience its ecosystems; it has certainly given him a unique perspective for his monograph. These animals and their ecology are intertwined with the earlier biotic and abiotic information to show how the animals interact with these features to create the ecosystem dynamics.
