Abstract

Guinea's state-owned power utility, Electricite de Guinee (EDG), has announced that it will deepen power cuts due to depleted energy sources. This is a result of a water deficit affecting hydropower dams, a fuel-depot explosion in the capital, and breakdowns at thermal power stations. Starting from April 6, there will be two to five outages per day, with EDG providing daily updates on the affected districts. Guinea, known for its large reserves of bauxite and untapped iron ore, has been experiencing rotational power service since December, and this announcement follows recent protests against power outages.
