Abstract

This study examines the impact of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices on employee engagement and organizational commitment through firm performance, based on data from 268 employees in Thai firms implementing GSCM. Using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), the research found that social and operating performance mediate the effects of certain GSCM practices—specifically environmental education, green marketing, and green warehousing and distribution—on employee attitudes, while green manufacturing negatively affects operating performance. Environmental and marketing performance did not significantly influence employee engagement or organizational commitment. The findings suggest that firms aiming to enhance employee engagement and commitment should focus on GSCM practices that improve social and operating performance and communicate clear environmental policies, while avoiding overemphasis on economic performance, which may have adverse effects on employee attitudes.
