Abstract
In June 2023, a rare event occurred in Maine when a large number of Atlantic Sturgeon were seen spawning in Cobbosseecontee Stream, a small tributary to the Kennebec River. This was unusual because Atlantic Sturgeon typically spawn in the murky mainstem of the river. The high water levels caused by heavy rains allowed the sturgeon to swim up the stream and reach a shallow pool where they spawned. The event attracted a lot of attention, with up to 200 sturgeon visible at one time and many people gathering on a nearby bridge to witness it. It is uncertain if this phenomenon will happen again, but for a brief period, it created a "sturgeon fever" among the public. [Extracted from the article]
