Abstract
This article examines the Sirang Theatre Ensemble’s use of transnational theatre to conceptualize sustainability and climate justice in the aftermath of super typhoons Yolanda (2013) and Odette (2021) in the Philippines. Centered on the virtual performance *Adoración de los Pastores: Transnational Solidarity for Climate Justice in the Performance of Waray Pastores*, the project reimagines the traditional Waray folk theatre form Pastores to articulate Indigenous epistemologies of collective care, particularly the Waray principle of Pag-ugop, as a framework for sustainable disaster response beyond conventional foreign aid models. The collaboration between Filipino and Filipino-Canadian artists highlights the role of cultural translation and digital platforms in fostering diasporic solidarity and amplifying local experiences of climate crises to global audiences. The ensemble’s work underscores the potential of Indigenous and community-rooted theatre practices to sustain intangible cultural heritage while addressing urgent environmental and social justice issues.
