Abstract
Environmental groups are taking legal action against the owner of an oil refinery near Denver for numerous pollution violations. The groups claim that state regulators have not held the owner accountable for the violations, which have had a detrimental impact on the health of residents in the surrounding area. The refinery, owned by Suncor Energy, has exceeded pollution standards and limits over 1,000 times between 2019 and 2023. While Suncor has previously paid a settlement for air quality violations, environmental groups argue that state regulators have not effectively enforced rules against the company.
