Abstract

The article focuses on recent progress in combating deforestation and advancing reforestation efforts in Africa, highlighting Ethiopia's Green Legacy Initiative launched in 2019. This initiative has significantly reduced deforestation rates and planted over 48 billion seedlings, contributing to climate resilience and improved livelihoods. The article also discusses the role of the United Nations’ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) framework, which financially supports developing countries like Ghana in emission reduction efforts. Despite these advances, Africa continues to experience the highest global deforestation rates, underscoring the need for increased investment and political commitment to sustain nature-based solutions.
