Abstract
The article focuses on the educational approaches to addressing light pollution, defined as the harmful effects of excessive or poorly directed artificial light at night. It highlights programs like "Globe at Night," which engage students and the public in observational astronomy to raise awareness of light pollution’s biological, environmental, and energy-related impacts. The article advocates integrating the physics of light pollution—specifically light–matter interactions (optics) and thermodynamics—into astronomy curricula to enhance interdisciplinary learning and promote project-based and service learning. It also emphasizes the contemporary relevance of light pollution as a topic that can motivate students to engage with astronomy and environmental science.
