Abstract
The article focuses on the ethical challenges faced by social workers following the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and concluded that the U.S. Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. It outlines key ethical concerns for social workers, including protecting client confidentiality, managing documentation, preventing client abandonment, and navigating risks of litigation or criminal charges related to abortion-related services. The article emphasizes the importance of adhering to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, relevant federal and state laws such as HIPAA, and risk management protocols, while also advocating for ethics-informed social work advocacy to support reproductive rights.
