Abstract

Italy, the United Arab Emirates, and Albania have signed a €1 billion deal to construct a subsea energy cable that will transport electricity from Albania to Italy through the Adriatic Sea. The project aims to reduce Italy's reliance on Russian gas imports, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and position Italy as a key energy hub between Europe and the Mediterranean. Albania, which already generates 96% of its power from renewable sources, is also increasing its solar power capacity. Premier Giorgia Meloni's energy policy includes promoting investments in Africa to enhance food and energy security and reduce migrant arrivals by sea. [Extracted from the article]
